Hi! My name is Katie Patterson and I am a classically trained pastry chef and cake decorator. That's my daughter in the picture above but I've loved baking since I was about her age. I grew up in central NJ, attended the French Culinary Institute in NYC (now the International Culinary Center,) and graduated in 2001 with a degree in Pastry Arts. In my career, I have had the opportunity to work in some of the finest restaurants and hotels on the East Coast including Le Cirque in NYC, The Ritz Carlton Palm Beach and The Breakers Palm Beach. I was executive Pastry Chef at LaGriglia in Kenilworth, NJ, Head Baker and Pastry Chef at Mardis Gras Fine Foods in Bloomfield, NJ, Pastry Sous Chef at Tsunami in Palm Beach, FL, Executive Pastry Chef at Dakotah's in Delray Beach, FL and Executive Pastry Chef at Aqua Blu Kitchen and Cocktails in Toms River, NJ. I started my own cake business in 2004 when I decided I wanted to make cakes and pastries my way. I chose the name Katie Cakes because it is the nickname my late father and his fellow firefighters gave to me when I was in culinary school and used to bring sweets to the fire house all the time. Even then, not only did I take pride in the fact that my cakes and pastries are beautiful, but that they also taste incredible. All of my recipes are either my own creations or have been handed down to me, and everything I make is from scratch. I don't believe in skimping on ingredients or making shortcuts in recipes and I believe it shows in the finished products. I love working with my customers to create their perfect cake or sweet treat and my favorite moment is when they see their Katie Cake for the first time. See for yourself - you won't be sorry!
When Katie Cakes began in 2004, it grew from a small business making a cake or two a month to multiple orders every week, including weddings and large events. I am confident that you will love my beautifully delicious cakes and other confections. Give me a call or email with any questions or to inquire about a wedding cake tasting. I'd love to hear from you.
I am not only a pastry chef and cake decorator, but also mom to 2 teenagers, a breast cancer survivor, a musical theater enthusiast and a self described book nerd. In 2022, I expanded my business to include My Kind of Healthy, combining my love of all things pastry with my lifelong passion for health and wellness. I graduated from the Institute for Integrated Nutrition as a certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, working to help women overcome exhaustion, anxiety and overwhelm and find their way back to the best version of themselves with transformative self care practices, clean eating and inspirational movement. I believe that not only is everyone capable of finding their kind of healthy but that they deserve to have their cake and eat it too ... and I'll make the cake! Visit my sister website to learn more.
